What Wix does well
Wix is a mature, well-designed builder with a large template library and a drag-and-drop editor that genuinely works. If you enjoy design decisions and have time to spend, you can produce a site you are proud of without writing code. It is a reasonable choice for someone who wants control and does not mind owning the work, and the base subscription is inexpensive compared with hiring anyone.
Where the DIY model tends to break down
The cost of a builder is rarely the subscription, it is the hours. Most local business owners start enthusiastically and then stall, because the site is never quite finished and the next job always matters more. The other pattern is a site that launches and then never changes, so the hours, services and photographs slowly drift out of date. A builder also stops at the website. Risky changes, such as publishing a page or changing an ad, stay in draft until you approve them.
